Abstract: The article is devoted to the sociological understanding of the basic theoretical concepts of justification of social institutions, in particular social work institution. The article presents the different interpretations of the concept of "social institution", analyzes the main structural elements of social institutions. Based on the research the author proposes to use the institutional approach in the theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of modern social work as a social institution.
