Abstract: This article contains a brief history of the development of rhetoric, which reflects the most significant achievements in the field of ancient and modern rhetoric, which experienced undeserved oblivion and renaissance in different historical epochs. It also refers to contemporary rhetorical science, which has come to serve the foundations of democratic society, fundamental social transformations, the values of people of different nationalities, and the needs of the linguistic individual and society.
