Abstract: The role of risk management in ensuring the sustainability of a commercial bank is explored in the article. The main problems of managing banking risks, factors affecting the occurrence of risk management are analyzed. The effectiveness of methods and mechanisms for managing banking risks in the context of global challenges and financial instability is considered. The problems of improving the role of management risk in the stable operation of commercial banks are disclosed. The factors that have serious influence on the organization and conduct of the risk management policy of commercial banks have been studied and systematized. The classification of risks by different criteria including, for reasons of origin, for the time of occurrence, depending on the type of commercial bank, depending on the bank's customers, depending on the distribution of risk over time, depending on the nature of the manifestation and depending on the nature risk accounting is considered. A number of recommendations to improve the role of management risk in ensuring the sustainability of a commercial bank in the current environment were compiled and given at the end of the article.
