Abstract: This article deals with the properties of gas, tar, which are obtained by coking of oil shale from six fields of Azerbaijan: Big Siyaki, Small Siyaki, Khinalig, Lokbatan, Shekikhan and Kechallar. The decomposition gas contains a certain amount of hydrogen sulfide and the composition of the low-boiling tar fractions contains a significant amount if thiophene compounds.

Key words: shale, decomposition gas, tar, thiophene, coking, kerogen.
