Abstract: A diaphragmatic hernia can be formed if, through an existing and expanded opening in the diaphragm, the peritoneum protrudes into the chest cavity, forming a hernial sac, which includes some organ of the abdominal cavity (more often the stomach or intestine). Diaphragmatic hernias are more common on the left, cause swallowing disorders, unpleasant sensations after eating, there may be pain in the heart or in the abdomen, but they often occur completely unnoticed. The most important sign of a hernia is dextrocardia and symptoms resembling a left-sided pneumothorax (weakening of breathing, tympanic percussion tone).
Key words: pathology, diaphragms, diaphragmatic hernia.
