Abstract: The article examines the issue of the formation of the genre of the poem in the Karakalpak literature of the XX century. The creativity and works of famous Karakalpak folk poets are studied. The arguments of the scientist S.Aqmetov concerning the formation and improvement of Karakalpak poems are given. In it, epic poetry is studied on the basis of the works of folk poets A.Musaev, S.Majitov, A.Dabilov, S.Nurimbetov. The author analyzes the shortcomings and achievements of epic poetry in the Karakalpak literature of the XX century.
