Abstract: Тhe concept of Koran is considered the main concept of the religion of Islam. What is more, holy Koran is the main source of Islam. Thus, interpreting it correctly means perception of religion properly. Throughout centuries a lot of mufassirs from muslim world have been tried to comment the holy book thoroughly and accurately. Islamic scholars from Mawarannahr were not exception to this either. We should mention that in medieval centuries Mawarannahr was the center of excellence for the studies of the holy Koran. As the result loads of mufassirs were brought up in this sacred land and their world known tafsirs came into existence. And these tafsirs were foundation and main source for the next generation of scientists. The article attempts to elucidate the emergence and prosperity of science of tafsir in Mawarannahr. Likewise, the role and scientific heritage of scientists-mufassirs is analyzed in depth.
