Abstract: The article examines the issue of developing students' discursive competence when teaching foreign languages. Discourse competence is very useful for students, especially for improving their abilities in constructing oral and written texts. As future specialists, students need qualifications, skills or ability to work with various texts and documents. As we know, discursive competence is knowledge of the text, it can be considered as coherence, and it also refers to pragmatic knowledge. In this article, the author analyzed the studies and views of academic researchers on the development of students' discursive competence in writing.
