Abstract: In this article, the author has considered various sociological, philosophical and psychological conceptions of the phenomenon of disability. An attempt is made to consider the peculiarities of understanding the phenomenon of disability by thinkers of the East and West. The author concluded that disability is a complex, multifaceted phenomenon that requires cross-disciplinary analysis. The author also updates the main directions of the study of the phenomenon of disability in Uzbekistan, since, as emphasized in the article, insufficient research is currently being conducted in Uzbekistan in the field of disability and policy, analysis of modern approaches to disability, disability and gender, etc. According to the author, this article in the future can serve as an incentive for the processes of conducting comprehensive disability research.
