Abstract: This article presents a model of a lesson of Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL) for students of the initial stage of training (level A2-B1), which contributes to the formation of communicative, linguistic and socio-cultural competence. The use of heuristic, play-based and project methods, discursive practices, techniques of problem training and methods of cooperative work serves to develop and introduce the lexical material and grammatical phenomena into active speech practice, as well as to remove psychological and language barriers. The thematic principle of the material presentation leads to a productive intercultural dialogue, promotes a tolerant attitude towards representatives of foreign cultures, builds up the ability to be a mediator of cultures.
