Abstract: The article describes the role of professional competence of a biology teacher in the formation of natural science concepts in the learning process. The formation of scientific concepts goes through the signs of concepts. Then, with the help of support words, abstract symbols, geometric shapes, letter symbols, students study the content of a material on a specific topic in biology, working in pairs and groups. As a result of the activation of students' independent activities due to the professional competence of the teacher, the systematic formation of natural science concepts takes place. The study used three types of professional competence: information and communication competence; competence in the field of innovation; creative competence.
