Abstract: In this article, the author, using folk folklore and works of classics of Karakalpak literature of the XVIII - XIX centuries, sheds light on the history of the kaziyan courts in the Karakalpak traditional society. Based on the analysis of folklore (fairy tales, legends, proverbs, poems) and historical data, the role and place of the kaziyan courts in Karakalpak society are revealed, their characteristics are presented. The socio-economic situation of the people is reflected in the context of the activities of the kaziyan courts of the lower reaches of the Amu Darya. The article contains interesting fragments that are rarely found in archival materials. For the purpose of comparative study, information from the materials of the author's own field research is included.
