Abstract: The article is devoted to the study of the influence of revolution on the cultural processes of society in the "extra-artistic" work of I.A. Bunin, who reacted to the situation of expulsion from the homeland by seeking spiritual support in the values of the traditional faith and D.S. Merezhkovsky, associated with the traditions of romantic theology. The degree of freedom and the dependence of the individual on the social environment is examined, the eternal values of human life, that are necessary for determining the problems of revolution and culture in publicism and writers' diaries of the 1920s, are revealed.
