Abstract: The point of view on the periodization of traditional Korean literature adopted in world Korean studies and justified in domestic science, following the principle of dividing literature into periods in accordance with historical periods, is developed in this article in a certain perspective: the paper attempts to consider the periodization of Korean literature up to the twentieth century in connection with its characteristic features. As such, the author highlights the features that seem fundamental to the author: the bilingualism of Korean literature and the ideas inherent in Korean culture about the text as a sacred instrument of influence on the world. Both of these features are associated with chronological problems, and in the work the characteristic features of each period of the development of Korean traditional literature are traced through the prism of these factors.
