Abstract: The article is devoted to the disclosure of important distinguishing features of the poem genre and its features in Karakalpak literature. In studying the qualitative features of the poem genre, much attention was paid to the scientific and theoretical reasoning of Russian, Uzbek literary scholars and also scientists of other nations. The article reveals the signs of the lyric-epic genre of the poem in Karakalpak literature. It is proved that Karakalpak poems by their genre characteristics are divided into lyric, epic, lyro-epic, dramatic and other types. The article proves by examples that the poem encompasses several genre forms and is a mixed and synthetic work.
