Abstract: The article examines the main features of the artistic embodiment of the existential value system of the famous 19th century writer Eliza Ozheshko in her novel "Over the Neman". Revealing a deep, essential conflict in the soul of the main character, Ozheshko, unlike the classics of existentialism, understands and portrays the result of this conflict not pessimistically. In the world of universal depersonalization, social and spiritual oppression, the writer believes, it is extremely important for the individuals to preserve their identity and intrinsic value. Therefore, the writer includes the positive characteristics of human existence - faith, hope, love, life - in her system of values.
Key words: existence, evolution, legend, myth, emancipation, hope, love, faith.
