Abstract: The problem of selecting illustrative examples in dictionaries of various types has remained in the center of attention of lexicographers for several decades. Especially often the issue of illustrative examples is discussed in English lexicography, since it was here that one of the first prerequisites for the creation of explanatory dictionaries were the concordances to the English translation of various books.
